Who We Are

Located on the campus of the University of British Columbia this vibrant church has a heart for the nations of the world. In April 2007, Peter Mogan (who is now the volunteer chair of the FH Canada Board) gathered a group of interested church members and went on a Partnership Trip to Lima, Peru. They wanted to experience firsthand the work that Food for the Hungry Peru was doing in the communities on the barren mountains in the outskirts of Lima. Peter and his group witnessed how FH Peru works to bring hope to all aspects of the human condition. In the Fall of 2008, a church member and professor of Spanish at the nearby University of British Columbia, volunteered to teach a Spanish course once a week in the basement of UC and over 30 people showed up! The desire to communicate in the language of their partner community is alive and well! UC sent their first Work Team to Peru in May 2009 where they used their Spanish language skills to connect with the children and adults in the community, as well as their muscle to join the community members as they work together on the construction projects already underway. Planning is fully underway for their next visit in July 2010. UC has now sent 15 members of their Canadian community to visit Peru. To prepare the 2010 Team and to help UC to continue to build a biblical worldview on poverty, development and social justice, an adult elective and a weekend workshop is being planned.
