Every May for the past three years a team of 10 -12 hearty souls from CapChurch in North Vancouver journey to eastern Uganda. Here, team members serve, love, laugh, work and re-discover life with new friend a half a world away. And Cap will continue to send teams for a few years to come. Through this cross-cultural engagement of commitment and relationships, there is now a presence of the village of Bufukhula in North Vancouver - in the lives of the members and congregation of CapChurch, in the artwork and pictures distributed through fundraising exhibits at the Bellevue Gallery, and in the homes of those that have sponsored over 300 children of the Mbale district. And there are landmarks of Cap’s influence in Bufukhula – a dedicated school block, a clean water supply pipe, a new medical clinic and even a mascot: a village chicken named Canuck. The whole experience has been life-transforming and heart-rending. Recently retired CapChurch pastor Paddy Ducklow, who has made the journey himself explains, “It’s changed the church, it’s changed our hearts. It feels like we’re in synchronicity with God in some big way.”
