Mighty moms to the rescue!
When something is wrong, mama knows best! That's why FH is empowering moms around the world. "Leader Mothers" are taught lessons on health and sanitation; each Leader Mother then commits to teach these lessons to at least 10 additional mothers in their community. These Leader Mothers are respected in their communities – and families are becoming healthier than ever!
Jean is a Leader Mother in Siloe, Haiti. After the 2010 earthquake, FH taught her how to make a “Tippy Tap,” a hand-washing station made with string and a plastic bottle filled with water and chloride tablets. Now her family uses the device to kill bacteria on their hands to prevent cholera. Jean has taught her neighbours and extended family to do the same. With her family now in good health, Jean has started a small shop in her house to earn a living.
